On Thursday 7th July, our level 3 and HNC electrical students were at last able to visit Drax power station near Selby once again. This is the first opportunity for such a visit since before the pandemic.
Learners were genuinely in awe of the scale of the plant and spent nearly 3 hours learning about how a biomass power station operates and touring the various parts of the site from the biomass storage facilities, cooling towers and railway sidings outside to the ash pits, turbine hall, pulverising mills and control room inside the plant.
Thanks must go to the three Drax staff for being very knowledgeable and for giving us an excellent and informative tour of the plant, which is the largest thermal power plant in the UK.
