The HNC course is designed to provide the knowledge and understanding of how advanced and innovative engineering underpins the mechanical industries.

Candidates applying for this course will need a relevant Level 3 qualification, which would usually be a BTEC National in Engineering or equivalent. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of previous achievement that may include substantial work experience within the engineering environment.

Over two years, learners will complete the following units:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Engineering Science
  • Engineering Project
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines
  • PLC’s
  • CAD

The subject areas are assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, timed assessments and coursework.

All HNC classes will include an in-house course in Team Member Skills that is aimed at improving the skills of the learner when working in and amongst teams.

Duration: 1 day per week over a two year academic timetable.
