The HNC course is designed to provide the knowledge and understanding of how advanced and innovative engineering underpins the mechanical industries.

Candidates applying for this course will need a relevant Level 3 qualification, which would usually be a BTEC National in Engineering or equivalent. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of previous achievement that may include substantial work experience within the engineering environment.

Over two years, learners will complete the following units:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Engineering Science
  • Engineering Project
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines
  • PLC’s
  • CAD

The subject areas are assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, timed assessments and coursework.

All HNC classes will include an in-house course in Team Member Skills that is aimed at improving the skills of the learner when working in and amongst teams.

Duration: 1 day per week over a two year academic timetable.

The 18th edition of the Wiring Regulations came into effect on 1 July 2018, with full implementation 1stJanuary 2019, featuring many significant changes since the last edition.

The 18th Edition changes mean that all commercial, domestic and industrial wiring installations must be designed, constructed, inspected, tested and certified to meet the requirements of BS 7671:2018

This four-day course is suitable for practicing Electricians who need to update from earlier editions of the wiring regulations, or for newly qualified Electricians who require the qualification to prove competence.  Alternatively, this course applies to others who are in a similar trades or supervisory roles, and have some electrical experience or knowledge, such as Plumbing and Heating Engineers, Maintenance Engineers, Design Engineers, Engineering Supervisors or Managers.

  • Online exam (open book) with results immediately upon completion.

In order to complete the course and exam, the candidate MUST have their own copy of BS7671 (2018) and a non-programmable calculator.

Candidates will also need to provide photo ID prior to taking the exam.
