The BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training replaces the Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector

Aimed at:

Candidates who are aiming to teach or train in the further education sector including those wishing to work in adult and community learning, work based learning as well as teaching in further education.

Requirement:

30 Hours Appris guided teaching (4 .5 days – ½ day induction, approx. 1 day per fortnight) which will include a 15 minute micro teach session and written assignments.

Content:

  • Identifying how to meet learner needs
  • Identifying ways to offer effective support for learning
  • Enhancing learners access to and participation in programmes of learning
  • Motivating learners and fostering enjoyment of learning
  • Identifying and implementing the appropriate methods and strategies for teaching and supporting learning and learning objectives
  • Developing effective communication and interaction skills
  • Designing a teaching and learning session
  • Understanding assessment theory and its application, forms and methods of assessing learning
  • Creating the opportunity to practice self-reflection and evaluation

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements; however candidates will be required to have a reasonable standard of literacy and ICT in order to complete the assessments.

Attendance: 4.5 days, including induction.

The Trainer Training course is designed for anyone who has the responsibility for passing on skills and knowledge and developing the attitudes of others regardless of skill level, job description or nature of work.

Course Content:

It is a hands-on programme with an emphasis on the practical skills required to undertake presentation, instruction and coaching and will cover:

  • The need for training
  • Performance standards
  • Training objectives
  • The learning process
  • Skill acquisition
  • Skill analysis
  • Questioning technique
  • Practical demonstration of a task to the group

Outcome:

Developing the skills required to provide effective in-house training of company personnel.

Duration: 2 days.

For those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment ie workshops, classroom or other training environments.

Requirement:

9 credits achieved from completion of 2 mandatory units.

Course Content:

Units are achieved through one to one support from an advisor who visits the workplace approximately once a month.

2 mandatory units contributing 9 credits

  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Assess vocationally skills, knowledge and understanding

Assessment:

A variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence and professional discussions.

Entry:

Candidates must have access to assess the skills, knowledge and understanding of 2 learners.

Duration: 1-to-1 sessions with the Assessor.

Cost: £750 + VAT

The Level 3 Award Assessing competence in the work environment is designed for those who assess occupational competence in an individual’s work environment.

Requirement:

  • 9 credits achieved from completion of 2 mandatory units.

Course content:

2 mandatory units contributing 9 credits

  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment

Assessment:

  • A variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence and professional discussions.

Entry:

  • Candidates must have access to assess the skills, knowledge and understanding of 2 learners.

Duration: 1-to-1 sessions with the Assessor.

Cost: £750 + VAT

For those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment ie workshops, classroom, or other training environments.

Requirements:

15 credits achieved from completion of 3 mandatory units.

Course content:

Units are achieved through one to one support from an advisor who visits the workplace approximately once a month, along with 4 half day workshops building the knowledge and skills required to be a competent assessor.

3 mandatory units contributing 15 credits

  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Assessment:

A variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence and professional discussions.

Entry:

Candidates must have access to assess the skills, knowledge and understanding of 2 learners.

Duration: 4 half day sessions, delivered over 2 months.

The Level 4 Award In the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice course for those who maintain the quality of assessment from within an organisation or assessment centre.

Requirement:

12 credits achieved from completion of 2 mandatory units.

Course content:

Units are achieved through one to one support from an advisor who visits the workplace approximately once a month.

2 mandatory units contributing 12 credits

  • Understanding the principles and practices of internally assessing the quality assessment
  • Internally assure the quality assessment

Assessment:

A variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence and professional discussions.

Entry:

Candidates must demonstrate occupational competence in your specialist areas and hold an assessing qualification to entry requirements. Also, candidates must have access to assess 2 assessors, each assessing a minimum of 2 candidates of their own through components of a qualification.

Duration: 1-to-1 sessions with the Assessor.
